Rebekah Shirey
Master of Social Work student
Hi, I’m Bekah.
I am a Master of Social Work student completing my placement at Child, Adolescent and Family Centre of Ottawa, working under the supervision of Christie Byvelds and Katie Montague.
I bring a relational, strengths-based approach to my work with children, youth, and families, grounded in the belief that every person’s experience deserves to be heard, understood, and respected.
I have a particular interest in supporting children and families navigating emotional overwhelm, life transitions, and experiences of grief and loss — including families who are finding their way through systems that aren’t always easy to navigate. I strive to create a space where clients feel safe to express themselves, make sense of their experiences, and build on their existing strengths and skills
I enjoy incorporating creative and holistic approaches into my work, drawing on my background in yoga and theatre, as well as my love for nature and the outdoors. I also draw on techniques from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and I am continuing to explore somatic approaches to support emotional regulation and mind-body connection.
I have experience facilitating groups and working one-on-one with children and youth, and I value building relationships that feel engaging, collaborative, and responsive to each person.
As a parent of four, I understand the complexity, joy, and challenges that come with family life. This perspective informs my work and deepens my commitment to supporting families in a compassionate and practical way.
