Services

No, you can refer yourself for all services except for the psychiatry services (Dr. Megan Lelli) which require a physician referral and are covered by OHIP. However, some insurance providers may require a referral from a doctor in order to cover the fees.

CAFCO offers both virtual and in-person appointments. Our virtual platform is fully compliant with all privacy legislation.

This depends on the service requested. We strive to schedule clients in a timely manner and are often conducting research on best practices to reduce wait times. Approximate wait times can be found HERE, keeping in mind these can vary.

If you are interested in working with a particular clinician, please indicate it on your request for services or inform the clinician conducting your Initial Consultation.

We encourage you to wait for a calm moment to discuss therapy or assessments with your child. It is not recommended to bring it up when your child is upset or immediately after a crisis or argument. Let your child know that therapy is a safe space to talk about their feelings. In case of assessments, let them know that this is a process aimed at understand them better. You may also show your child a picture of their clinician (available on our website) so they know who to expect.

Additional information on preparing your child for therapy can be found here:

Clinicians

All four professionals provide high-quality, evidence-based treatment. The primary difference is that only Clinical Psychologists can provide a formal diagnosis.

A psychometrist administers and scores standardized psychological tests under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist.

In Ontario, psychologists must complete one year of Supervised Practice after finishing their clinical training, internship/residency, and thesis defense. Psychologists in Supervised Practice receive weekly supervision from a licensed psychologist. They are highly trained and work independently while consulting regularly with their supervisor for guidance.

An Intern (Resident) is completing the final stage of a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology prior to beginning Supervised Practice. Interns have completed all coursework and practicum training.
Practicum Student is still in the process of completing graduate training. Both receive weekly supervision from a licensed psychologist.
