Screens and Teens

How to support and protect your teen in the digital age

If you’ve ever wondered…

• How do I talk to my teen about phones/ social media/ video games without constant conflict?

• Should I be setting more limits? Is it too late to make changes?

• What does the research actually tell us?

…you’re not alone.

Technology offers incredible opportunities for learning, creativity, and connection. It has also changed adolescence and parenthood in ways we’re only beginning to understand.

As teens grow, our role as parents shifts from making the rules to helping them develop the judgment and habits they’ll carry into adulthood. This workshop isn’t about controlling technology—it’s about helping parents remain one of the strongest influences in their teenager’s life.

What this workshop is NOT about:

❌ Inciting fear or panic about technology use

❌ Suggesting drastic changes that create crisis in your parent-teen relationship

❌ Focus on parental controls of devices (we do provide references to where you can get this technical support!)

❌ Any shaming or blaming of parents or teens for the current struggles

What this workshop IS about:

✅ Understanding how a teen’s experience online is different from our own as adults

✅ Increasing parental knowledge about the research and current data regarding the impact of screens on mental health, sleep, and social connections

✅ Exploring therapeutic strategies to connect with your teen first and foremost, to protect the relationship and create more cooperation

✅ Leaning into collaboration as an approach towards change related to technology use in your home.

✅ How parents can work together to create healthier community norms.

Join us for a two part workshop that will provide hope, support and strategies to help you in next steps around this challenging issue facing so many parents.

Included in the workshop: a handout for each session with key strategies and resources.
