Katie Montague

Social Worker

I’m Katie, a registered social worker and psychotherapist with a passion for supporting children, youth, families, and adults through difficult times. I currently work in Outpatient Mental Health at CHEO and have previously worked in a variety of settings supporting children and youth, including rehabilitation centres, and within school systems. These experiences have shaped my commitment to providing compassionate, developmentally informed care to individuals and families navigating emotional and mental health challenges.

I have experience supporting trans youth and individuals within the 2SLGBTQ+ community, and I strive to create an affirming, inclusive, and safe space where people feel respected and supported in exploring their identities and experiences.

My approach to therapy is collaborative, trauma-informed, and grounded in creating a space where people feel heard and understood. I believe healing and growth happen in the context of supportive relationships, and I work alongside clients to build practical skills, deepen self-understanding, and move toward meaningful change.

I draw from a range of evidence-based and experiential therapies to tailor treatment to each person’s needs, including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Brainspotting, Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), and play-based therapies when working with children.

I hold a Bachelor of Child Studies (Carleton) and a Master of Social Work (Laurier). My training and experience focus on child and youth development, family systems, and trauma-informed care.

Clients often describe me as warm, approachable, and engaging. I aim to bring a sense of genuine connection into the therapy space—many clients share that they appreciate my ability to bring appropriate lightness and humour into sessions while remaining professional and focused. Clients also often describe me as dedicated and committed to supporting them through challenges and growth.
