Dr. Kelly Weegar provides psychological services to children, adolescents, and families in English. Her main areas of practice include mood and anxiety problems, trauma, attention and behavioural difficulties, learning problems, parenting challenges, and support with difficult life circumstances. Dr. Weegar also conducts psychoeducational and diagnostic assessments, such as for learning problems and attention difficulties.
Dr. Weegar’s approach is collaborative, strength-focused, and integrative. She strives to foster nurturing, genuine, and empowering relationships with her clients. She also works collaboratively with her clients to develop evidence-based treatment plans that consider clients’ strengths and needs, mainly using elements of cognitive-behavioural, emotion-focused, and/or systemic perspectives.
Dr. Weegar has trained in a variety of hospital, school, and community-based settings in Ottawa. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Centre for Psychological Services and Research at the University of Ottawa in 2019. Dr. Weegar received a B.A. (Hons.) degree in Psychology in 2011 and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 2019, both from the University of Ottawa. She is registered as a clinical psychologist in supervised practice with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. She is supervised by Dr. Julie Desjardins, C. Psych. Dr. Weegar is also active in the research community and has a keen interest in supporting the educational needs of children with trauma histories.
